Pencil Can for my Man

Sunday, February 27, 2011
So awhile back I put together a pencil/pen holder for myself after I saw Andrea at Keepin' It Thrifty. Here is my original pencil/pen holder post.

The above was the original pen/pencil holder. Today my boyfriend mentioned my pen/pencil holder and asked if I could make him one. This is a big accomplishment having my boyfriend want me to make him some sort of craft! So needless to say I got right on that and made him one for his office at work. I of course made it manly and simple. Here is the final product...

Funky Magnets

Thursday, February 24, 2011

I know Valentine’s Day is over but I’m all about spreading the love all year around ; ) So here is a quick and easy project you can do with bottle caps.
IMG_0901
I made some fun bottle cap magnets with a few items I had around my house.
For this project you will need:
1. Bottle Caps
2. Magnets
3. Magazines/Stickers..something to decorate your caps
4. Mod Podge
5. Spray Paint
6. Glue Gun
The first thing I did was lay out a handful of bottle caps and simply spray painted them white. While the caps were drying I flipped through a magazine and cut out a few letters and a heart to use to decorate my caps. After the caps had dried I simply mod podged on my magazine clippings and again let them dry. The last step was adding the magnets. These next few pictures are horrible quality and I apologize but you get the point if you squint…

Add a drop of hot glue in the bottle cap and place in magnet like so…

What a perfect fit! I then slapped those suckers on the fridge and  even got a compliment from the boyfriend (which is a large achievement I have to point out- he doesn’t notice much ha).

Winey Wednesday #1

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Hi everyone! I am so excited to announce a new weekly feature, Winey Wednesday. I can't take credit for this fantastic idea, I give all credit to the fantastic Chrissy of My Hoot Designs , she is so talented and gave me this fantastic idea and I just couldn't resist! As some of you may know I have an Etsy shop dedicated to wine accessories. Wine has become a big part of my life, no I don't require a glass to go to bed or depend on it to get by- ha I just honestly enjoy wine, learning about wine, sharing a glass with my boyfriend, testing new wines and creating handmade wine accessories. So in honor of my love for a smooth glass of vino in the company of good friends and with the help of Chrissy I've decided to begin the weekly series, Winey Wednesday!

I'd like to start week one by discussing where my love of wine started from. I first fell in love with wine when I tasted this fabulous wine....
Cakebread Chardonnay. First of all the name is appealing enough- Cakebread. Doesn't that just sound yummy? Cakebread was introduced to me by my boyfriend and I've been a self proclaimed "wine-o". I have no idea how to describe wine but all I can tell you is this wine is smooth and heavenly. Cakebread really taught me how to appreciate wine. I'm no wine expert or anything but after my first sip of Cakebread I tasted something different and it was love at first sip. Cakebread is not on the "affordable side of the wine" (according to my bank account at least) and that means I don't get to taste it very often (our "special occasion" wine) but I think this in turn allows me to appreciate a sip of Cakebread so much more. I find myself on a mini-vacation as I sit back and sip on a glass of Cakebread.

I want to share my love of wine with all of you and seek out other "wine-o's" through Winey Wednesdays. I'm willing to grow these weekly posts and if you have any ideas how to do that I'm encouraging suggestions- elephantstrunk42@gmail.com

I also want to give a shout out to my new sponsor Anne Franklin Designs. She has the perfect necklace for Winey Wednesdays, the Wine-oh necklace...

Take a button and lets spread the word about Winey Wednesdays.

The Elephant's Trunk- The Shop

Sunday, February 20, 2011

Some of you may already but for those who don't... in addition to this blog I also run The Elephant's Trunk Etsy Store-

The shop used to go by the name of V8 Ambition but in order to better brand both my store and the blog I meshed the two together. I also used to sell jewelry at the shop but realized that wasn't really my strength. I wanted to sell something I was passionate about and something I was able to support 100% and that wasn't my jewelry. I'm a wine-o I love wine and I knew I wanted to do something around what I love. The Elephant's Trunk Etsy shop now is full of wine accessories such as wine blooms and wine corks (coming soon: wine to and from tags and wine charms). Here are some of my current favorites in the shop...

In honor of the recent changes to the shop I'm holding a week long sale!
2. Enter discount code "wine20" at checkout to receive 20% your total purchase

I hope you take advantage of the great deal or at least just take a moment to check out the shop. I appreciate this blog community so much and if it wasn't for a lot of creative ladies' encouragment I wouldn't have made all these exciting changes to the shop!

Thank you.

Laundry Closet Organization

Saturday, February 19, 2011

I am so blessed to have a wonderful laundry closet. Why would I need a laundry room when I have a dark, gloomy, small laundry closet? Anytime I pass the laundry closet I just cringe, it was a disaster, you see…
IMG_1220
Ahh!! Are you cringing too? Anyways it needed a bit of a facelift so I got to work on fixing the closet up. I started by scrubbing clean both the washer and dryer (confession: I’ve never done that since we moved in-gross!). I then found some containers around our place that I could use to organize what we really needed in the laundry closet and I tossed everything else or found it a new home. Here is the transformation- finished in less than an hour and best part is it was free!

Much better- now I can appreciate my laundry closet (at least a little bit).

The Best Valentine's Day Ever

Wednesday, February 16, 2011
I consider myself one of the luckiest girls in the whole world. I have the best boyfriend and he didn't disappoint for Valentine's Day. This boy knows the key to this girl's heart- food. He made all my favorite foods for Valentine's Day (all of course packed with calories, who cares it was a special day).
-Mac and Cheese
-Garlic Mashed Potatoes
-Filet Mignon (medium rare of course)
-Creamed Corn
-Wine
& - Molten Chocolate Cake

Needless to say, I haven't eaten much since!

I hope you all had a fantastic Valentine's Day with the ones you love.

Guest Post: Kelly from Blissful Mediocrity

Tuesday, February 15, 2011
I'm so excited to have Ms. Kelly here today to show you all how to make quite the sassy headband! Kelly, take it away...

Hi there!

I am very exciting to be guest posting over here at The Elephants Trunk today; truly such an honor! For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Kelly and I blog over at Blissful Mediocrity.  I would love for you to come stop by and say hi! I love all the simple things in live that most people pass by without a second glance.  My blog is just a small window into some of my inspirations daily!

I wanted to share with you a simple little project to do on a rainy day or when you have some free time! It’s very simple and only takes a few supplies most of which you probably already have around the house! You will need: a hot glue gun, scissors, felt, and sequins.

First you need to turn your hot glue gun on and get it nice and warm.
Next cut out the shape you want, I choose hearts.

Once you cut the shapes out that you want its time to get started with the hot glue gun.  This is the most time consuming part of the whole process.  Start individually gluing on each sequence.  It is important to glue them on a one at a time so that the glue doesn’t harden while you glue the previous sequins on.

Once all the sequences are glued on and dried you can either hot glue your masterpiece onto a headband or clip and Ta-Da you have an amazing new sassy headpiece.

Thank you Lauren for letting me share a little bit of myself with your readers! I hope you all enjoyed and head on over to Blissful Mediocrity if you would like to see more of me!

Guest Post by Jodi at Jodi Bean's Blog

Sunday, February 13, 2011
Happy Weekend everyone! I want to introduce you all to the very inspirational and talented, Jodi! I'm so happy I was able to connect with Jodi through this fantastic blogging worl and I'm so excited that she is here today at The Elephant's Trunk to tell you all a little more about herself. Take it away Jodi....

Hi my name is Jodi and I blog at Jodi Bean's Blog.  I started blogging last April to keep my family and friends updated about the MS Walk we were participating in.  I then realized that blogging was a great way to keep an "online scrapbook" of my life.  I LOVE scrapbooking and have been on a scrapbooking hiatus for many months now.  Blogging was a great way to keep track of all the fun things going on in my life.

I have a lot of hobbies and interests that I can hardly find time to squeeze them all in!  I love to travel and take at least one big vacation per year.  Coming up I'll be in Florida for some fun in the sun (and Happy Hours) with my mom and grandmother.

Then in May I'll be heading to London to visit my good friend Stacy (aka my scrapbooking buddy) who recently moved there for a new job.  I love London and lived there for a semester in college.  Can't wait to head back and to see Stacy!  I love to blog about my vacations too.

I also love to blog about my nieces, Peyton (3) and Ella (2).  They are my loves and bring so much happiness to my life.  I am fortunate that I am able to see them often and do a lot of fun things with them.  Oh and they are adorable so I make sure to post pictures of them often.

I love cows. . .

and martinis. . .

Oh and by the way, I have Multiple Sclerosis.  I was diagnosed with MS on September 26, 2008 and life hasn't been the same since.  I write a lot about MS and my life with MS.  I want people to know that just because I have MS doesn't mean I don't still have a life.  I do and a very active one!

So if you would like to know more about me and my crazy life stop by my blog.  I would love to "meet" new people in the blogging world.

Thank you Lauren for featuring me on your blog.  I hope your readers enjoy learning a little more about me today!
