I'm Allison and I blog over at A Glimpse Inside.
I am thrilled to be here today sharing my wedding story with all of you.
My husband, Travis, and I got married on January 6, 2007.
-Location: Murfreesboro, TN
-Colors: Brown, Chartreuse Green and Aqua/turquoise
-Ceremony Time: 3 pm
-Reception: Immediately followed at a Country Club and we partied the night away
The Planning:
We got engaged the previous April so we
had about 9 full months to plan which was a little difficult since I
was student teaching in another city than where the wedding was going to
be. Good thing for my parents!
We
picked Jan. 6th because it was the first weekend after the holidays and
we were just hoping and praying Travis would be here for our big day. He
is in the military and we weren't positive when we set the date how
quickly he would have to leave for training after we graduated. So, we
graduated Dec. 16th, had the holidays, and then got married. Luckily, he
was still around! :)
I had been slowly buying wedding magazines for some time before we got engaged, (don't most girls when they have been dating someone for 3+ yrs?), so I already had a ton of ideas pulled out and saved in a folder. Once we announced it to our families the day after, Easter Sunday, I pulled out my folder and the planning began.
I would have LOVED a spring or summer wedding but with the fact of not knowing if Travis would be around, we had to go with the winter January wedding but I still wanted to do bright colors.
All of my bridesmaids wore aqua colored dresses and the groomsmen wore aqua vests and ties.
Flowers:
For my bouquet I wanted to incorporate all the wedding colors so I had a few different types of white flowers- roses, ranunculas, calla lilies, hydrangea and freesias, blue hydrangea, then green roses, hydrangea, and orchids along with some berries.
My bridesmaids each carried a bouquet of one specific flower that was in my bouquet. So my maid of honor carried green roses, then one bridesmaid carried white ranunculas, another white hydrangea, one white roses, another freesia, and another calla lilies.
Travis wore a green rose and freesia boutonniere and the groomsmen had freesia and berry boutonnieres.
Details:
It was a bit of a DIY wedding but it all turned out looking fabulous!
(Sorry for the bad pictures! At the time of our wedding, blogging wasn't on my mind and these are just some snap shots people gave me.)
We made our wedding invitations using scrapbook paper after some invitations that I loved but didn't love the price of.
I designed our wedding programs and just printed them on my computer at home and tied the ribbon on to them.
I also designed our save-the-date cards as well. I just created post cards with a picture of us and mailed those out.
I wanted a colored/monogrammed aisle runner but didn't want to pay the money so my mom sewed the runner together and I painted the monogram on it.

We just draped ribbon on the pews and we made the little white wreaths for the end of them after something I saw in Martha Stewart Weddings. All they are is a white styrofoam wreath form, tissue paper cut into MANY circles, and white pearl berries or small ornaments.
I also saw this in MS as well and I LOVED it!
I found different silver frames and placed each of our grandparent's wedding pictures, our parent's wedding pictures, and a picture of us. I also had the names and wedding dates on little tags under each picture- this picture was from right after making them so those aren't included yet.
This was hanging on a wall in the reception room.

To collect all the wedding cards, I made this wedding card box that looks like a wedding cake.
I used paper mache boxes. Cut holes in the tops and bottoms so the cards would fall all the way to the bottom and glued them together. I also cut a small slit in the top to slip the cards in. I covered it with white fabric and then ribbon in our wedding colors. I added rhinestones around the edges for a little extra flair.

For the reception, my mom sewed the table cloth for the cake table. It's brown fabric and then she sewed green around the edges.

On all the main tables, she sewed a small brown square to bring the brown to the tables and then all the tables had different vases. Some we bought as is, others were plain or the wrong color and we just spray painted them our colors. We then sprayed sticks white for added height and all of the flowers in the vases were white. Each vase had the same type of flower in them but all the vases were different (make sense?). In order to save some money, a few tables had JUST pillar candles on them with rose petals.

Our wedding favors were clear ornaments and I just shredded blue and green cardstock and stuffed it into each ornament.
And the last thing we created were these Plexie Glass Boxes. I can't remember which magazine I found this in but we put them out front and on the back deck at our reception with candles inside. LOVE THEM! We didn't hang any but we put ribbon in our wedding colors around them and white candles in them.

So that is everything that was made by us for our wedding. I had a breakdown in the middle of making it all freaking out it wouldn't all look good but I am so happy with how it all came out in the end! lol
Travis wanted a fun cake so... we had a fun, non-traditional cake.
A few other details:
-We walked into our wedding reception with sunglasses on and to the song, "Bad to the Bone" when they introduced us.
-I've created multiple scrapbooks with pictures of Travis and I since we've met so those were on display at the reception.
-Our guest book, was an album of our engagement pictures with black pages where everyone signed.
-We also had a large engagement picture framed on display where people could sign the mat.
-We decided to see each before the wedding ceremony to take pictures. Travis was at the alter with his back to me and I walked up behind him so when he turned around he would be surprised by how I looked. The only people in the room with us were our photographers to capture the moment.
-We had a slideshow going on at the reception of childhood pictures of us and pictures of the two of us.
-Above the dance floor, we placed balloons with small mirrors attached to fishing string on them as the tail to catch the light. By the time the reception began, the balloons were actually all hovering right above the dance floor but no one knew they weren't suppose to be like that! lol My BIL had to cut off the bottom mirrors in order for them to float back up to the ceiling.
We are about to celebrate our 6 year wedding anniversary this January and I've loved every minute of it.
Thanks for letting me share my wedding story Lauren!
Good luck with your wedding planning! Remember to have fun!!
