The Colorado Wildfire

Thursday, June 28, 2012
As some of you know I am from Colorado and my family still lives there. The current wildfires in Colorado are devastating and heartbreaking.

There are many ways to help but this is one I wanted to share with all of you- it is easy and you get a very cool t-shirt out of the deal designed by Colorado artists. All t-shirts are just $20 and 100% of the proceeds go to benefit Colorado wildfire victims.

Shop Update

Sunday, June 17, 2012

You know when you hit that moment where you go...oh man I have a lot going on! I've hit that point a few times in my life (okay maybe a bit more than a few) and now is one of those times. I know that if I overfill my plate I will eventually hit a brick wall and fall flat on my face. I am very excited with a bunch of things I've got going on right now... I just know I need to pick a few things to focus on and right now the shop has to be put on the back burner. I am going to be out of town most of July and August so hopefully I'll be able to open the shop back up in September. I will be putting the shop in "vaca" mode most likely on Wednesday so if you've been eyeing something or need to stock up on cards- now is the time.

Postable

Thursday, June 14, 2012

If you didn't already know...I love snail mail! I enjoy sending a handwritten note or card to a friend or loved one. I like sending them just because and of course for special events.

I recently discovered Postable and I couldn't have been more excited about it. Postable is a website that allows you to have an online contact list for free. It is perfect for when you are collecting addresses for a wedding, shower or just because you want to be able to send your friend a card.

By creating an account with Postable you are then given a specific link to send to your friends in which they can fill in their address for you. You are also given the option to import another address list you may have to Postable. The great part about Postable is that you can access your addresses wherever you have access to an internet connection.

I am loving using Postable and highly suggest it!

Cookie Decorating

Tuesday, June 12, 2012
For some reason I've caught the cookie baking/decorating bug and not the bug to slap on some store bought frosting on some cutout cookies and call it a day.

This kind of cooking decorating...

I know I know- I've got some high aspirations and I know that there is no way in hello kitties that I will produce cookies like this, but I think it looks like a blast.

I've been reading lots and lots of cookie blogs learning about flooding, 20 second icing, piping, and more. Here are a few of my favorite blogs for cookie decorating::

Wish me luck!

Scotch-a-Roos

This was one of my favorite desserts growing up as a kid. My Mom made it so often she had it down to a science and never had to measure any of  the ingredients. Today I am going to share with all of you how to make scotch-a-roos.

Ingredients:
-6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal
-1 cup of white syrup (corn syrup)
-1 cup of sugar
-1 1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter

Topping:
-1 1/2 cup of chocolate chips (milk chocolate work best)
-1 cup of butterscotch chips

Prepare a 9 x 13 baking dish by spraying with your choice of non-stick grease. Place your syrup and sugar in a large pot and bring to a boil. Add your peanut butter to the pot and mix thoroughly. Remove pot from heat and add Rice Krispies. Dump contents of pot into your baking dish and smooth out across the dish to create an even surface of Rice Krispie. Using either your microwave or a small pan melt your chocolate chips and butterscotch chips together. If I use the stove to melt my chips I make sure to constantly stir the chocolate and butterscotch so the contents do not burn (I also like to add a splash of milk when I use the stove). After your chips are completely melted pour onto the top of your Rice Krispies and spread evenly. Allow your Scotch-a-Roos to sit before cutting. I like to throw my pan in the fridge so I can be sure my top layer sets. After your topping has set, cut and enjoy!

I'm linking this recipe up to these great parties and this one.

I love supporting handmade and small businesses. I recently purchased this bow headband from Just Lovely Things. I was so impressed by the quality. It was from this headband that I was reminded about my love for handmade. Please when possible consider shopping handmade. Support small businesses.

My Favorite Apps

Sunday, June 10, 2012

I like many others love my iPhone and one of the reasons is vast amount of apps available to download!

Here are a few of my favorites::

Scramble with Friends:
This game is the best! You are given a board with lots of letters and have two minutes to create as many words as you can by dragging your finger along the screen to connect the letters. You play against your Facebook or Twitter friends. You are also given the opportunity to play against random opponents. I could play this game over and over and I do. Anytime I get a few moments to myself and my iPhone I am catching up on my Scramble games.

Instagram:
If you don't know what Instagram is you have been living under a rock ;) Instagram is an app that let's you share photos that you have applied cool filters to. Basically Instagram is a place where you can see what your friends ate for dinner, what they ate for lunch, what they ate for breakfast, how they painted their nails, various photos of their babies and pictures of their pets. You can follow me on Instagram by clicking on the grey Instagram item over there to the right.

FourSquare:
I admit I'm new to FourSquare and although I have heard about it plenty of times I never checked it out because I didn't see the purpose of me "checking in" everywhere I went. I had an assignment where I needed to do some research on a variety of social media outlets so I downloaded FourSquare. I was hooked when I realized I could get a variety of "specials" just by checking in. I check in at my favorite FroYo spot and get 10% off every time.

Echofon (Pro):
By far my favorite Twitter app and I've tried a lot of them. Well worth the price. I have been nothing but happy with this app.

Facebook Pages:
I am so excited that Facebook rolled out this app. It was a pain in the rear end to use pages on the Facebook app and now there is a app specific for pages on Facebook- awesome!

What are some of your favorite apps?
